Is miscommunication an issue in your organisation? 73% of employees in the UK have experienced workplace misunderstandings due to unclear communication; with 43% of employees witnessing or experiencing inappropriate language in the workplace.

750,000 new words are created every single day globally. When it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion, language and terminology evolves constantly as people learn more about the world and people around them.

This session looks at language, terminology and acronyms and how language can bring people together in shared understanding.

This interactive session will:

  • Enable you to share thoughts and ideas with others
  • Test out different ways of using language to talk about people, places, behaviours and concepts
  • Help you understand the latest language and terminology relating to equality, diversity, and inclusion

About Watch This Sp_ce

Watch This Sp_ce is a multi-award-winning diversity and inclusion company, helping people work better together powered by inclusion. Providing a unique Inclusion Journey Mapping process, training, workshops, coaching and content to organizations across a range of sectors nationally including technology, education, local government, hospitality and social enterprises. The Inclusion Journey is the first book written by Watch This Sp_ce which will be published by Kogan Page in September 2024.

About The Speaker

Mo Kanjilal is Co-Creator at Watch This Sp_ce. During a career in international technology corporations leading global teams, Mo worked on creating diverse, inclusive teams. After working in smaller companies on similar initiatives, she co-created Watch This Sp_ce during the pandemic. The company works with organisations across sectors to help them understand why inclusive teams matter, what changes they need to make and how to help people work better together. Mo is also a Charity board Trustee, a Non-Exec Director, a Conference Speaker, and Writer.

Event Specific Accessibility:

This event will take place virtually and include a presentation. We will have closed captions on during the live stream and can provide a copy of the presentation in advance.

Please bring reusable water bottles and coffee cups where possible. A selection of food and drink will be provided and we are able to cater to a variety of dietary requirements including vegan and gluten free. Please let a member of our team know if you have an allergy.

This event will be seated and includes an active panel discussion with continous talking and a short presentation. If you require a quiet space at any time during the event, please speak to a member of our team who will be able to arrange this for you.

Location: Sussex Innovation is based on the University of Sussex Falmer campus. It can be accessed by the 23, 25 and 28 buses, trains to Falmer station. The Sussex Innovation car park is free to guests of the centre – press the buzzer on the carpark barrier and let reception know which event you are attending.

General accessibility: The main doors to the building are automatic and have step-free access. Gender neutral toilets are available by reception.
