Launching Croydon’s first dedicated service for raising finance and investment, Suss Ventures held its first pitch day on November 7th, 2019. With its aim to accelerate the growth of London and the South East’s high potential businesses, five companies pitched their innovative ideas to five high net worth investors.

The investor line-up included Caridon Private Equity Group, Guerilla Investors and the Founder of Angels Den, Bill Morrow.

On the 11th floor of No 1 Croydon, also known as Croydon Tech Tower, the event kicked off with a warm welcome from the Founder of Suss Ventures, Laurence Grant and Interim Chief Executive of Sussex Innovation, Nigel Lambe.

Investors listened to five compelling 20-minute pitch presentations from five exciting start-ups: PlayrCart Ltd, PSYT, Fault Fixers, Lean Kitchen and an unnamed company. Pitches were then followed by a 10-minute Q&A allowing investors to ask more information about the businesses.

Halfway through the event, investors and the Suss Ventures team had a short break to enjoy a delicious lunch from a local family business, Zabardast, The Indian Wrap Company.

We spoke to companies and investors on the day to find out how they found the first ever Suss Ventures pitch event.

Co-founder and CEO of PYST, Nick Begley commented: “Laurence has been very efficient – the whole process has been very streamlined, very easy, and I highly recommend working with them.”

Bill Morrow, founder of Angels Den, Europe and Asia’s largest Angel network, said: “One of the great things about Suss Ventures is the fact that they’re based here in Croydon because Croydon is kind of under-represented in its entrepreneurial scene. There are a lot of incredible companies here that don’t have the opportunity to meet with investors. I am just really pleased to be a part of it, so well-done guys – it was amazing!”
